I agree to a certain extent with this statement. With the threat of terrorism lingering over America for the past few decades, it is definitely necessary for our government to intervene. The Patriot Act was created and enforced after the worst terrorist attack in American history, 9/11. The act significantly altered many U.S. laws including the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), the Money Laundering Control Act (MLCA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and the Immigration and Nationality Act.In simpler terms, the Patriot Act allotted the government powers to intrude in public records (i.e. phone records, emails). I agree that our government should take steps in preventing the threat of terrorism imposed on our country. However, I feel that their actions so far have violated our right to privacy which, in fact, is unconstitutional. Whether from a surveillance camera, or through the tracking of our phones, “We” are always being watched. To me, this is kind of scary and even creepy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that the government is taking precautions to seek out terrorists, but I believe their ways are unjust.
