I agree with this statement. I think that if before 9/11 if the goverment were paying attention to the technoligy they have it could have been provented. There have been many threats that have been able to be stoped in time before they ocured because the goverment has these powers.I went on to heritage.org and found out that since 9/11 30 terrorist plots had been stoped. For example in 2001 Richard Reid attempted to detonate explosives hidden in his shoes on a flight from Paris to Miami. In 2003 thirteen members of the Virginia Jihad Network were arrested on weapon charges. Seven were also charged with corisponding to support terrorist organizations. In 2009 Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to detonate explosives on a Detriot-bound flight on Christmas Day. These instances prove that since the goverment has had these powers we are a saffer nation.
I'm actually amazed at how many terrorist attacks have been stopped since 9/11 due to the Patriot Act; I didn't know that. I agree that so far the government has been doing a good job protecting the U.S. and its people, but sometimes they go too far. In my opinion, it was wrong of President Bush to hide the acts of data mining. He denied the fact, and instead, sugar coated it to try and make data mining look innocent. If the government was honest with us (as citizens) I think this whole Patriot Act wouldn't be such a big deal.
It is very impressive that 30 terrorist plots have been stopped since 9/11. That is extremely strong evidence that you have brought forth to argue that the Patriot Act is beneficial to our nation.
This has to have been the best one i have read yet!! I agree to everything you said. This is just to protect us and thats it. the government isnt doing anything to the data they are getting from us but going through a filter to make sure everything is ok. thats it
