Book One - Obviously

First of all, this book is extremely boring. It sounds like one big rant.I did not care for how the book opens up and how the characters are developed. So hard to read because it's so boring!!! If you dont think its boring, please tell me why.

Fyodor - Obviously, he is an idiot and a little screwed up in the head. Marries someone he doesnt love, probably for money, and then b*tches and moans to her at every chance he gets. Orgies, making fun of himself, and drunken laughter? Not caring for his little son. People like this should be DENIED the right to have children. Then remarries...and, you all know the rest. TOTAL LOSER!

Mitya/Dimitry - Totally my favorite brother. Starts off with a ruff childhood, ignored by his father, dead mother. Moves around alot, joins military. Gets demoted for fighting/dueling, gets promoted for gallantry. Lives a reckless, irressonsible, violent, passionate, impatient life. Assumes that he is going to get a huge inheritance ((pretty much gain power)), then gets blindsided by the fact he's barely getting squat.

Ivan - Supposedly smart, intelligent, and hard working. Writes books...obviously the smart brother.

Alexei/alyosha  - dont like him, unlike most of you, who love him the most.  He doesnt talk much, and he doesnt take chances. He also doesnt judge others or condemn others. He places too much trust in human beings and fails to realize some things that people do deserve condemntion. He can't handle simple language that might be obscene. Money is meaningless to him, which is foolish and proves he knows nothing of the real world, only some fairytail reality he is living in. Decides to be a monk, guess that suites him. Sorry i dont like him yet..lol.

Yeah, I am almost done with Book 2 and there are some dialogues that run for a page or two...it truly is one big rant. But I guess it is supposed to be a meaningful rant, so I bear with it.

Interesting reply. I found this book fascinating. Right now, I am reading a truly boring book for my "book club" I am on pg 300 of 400 and I have to force myself to keep reading.
I found it interesting that you like Dmitry the best. Watch what happens with each character. What is the responsibility of family members to each other? sibling? parent? child?

Honestly, I do like Dmitry, but I think that he lives his life a little foolishly. I mean.... I am actually pretty far in the book, and I can tell you that there are some things that he does that are just truly reprehensible. I mean he is a pretty nice guy don't get me wrong, but I just think that he could have made some better choices.

I like Alyosha because, even though he does not condemn others, he understands that all people are not like his father. Even those who are do not require his judgment for they are under the judgment of a much higher power--God.
