1. None of them did a good job of preventing or reacting to Hurricane Katrina. The Local and State Government should have had earlier indications that the storm was coming and also should have had a plan to help be evacuate New Orleans. The day after the disaster, the National Government should have been informed about the conditions and should have reacted sooner then later. None of them mitigated either. Instead, the National, State, and Local Government just kept pointing fingers at one another.
2. National: The National Government should have offered more aid and helped the people more then they did.
State: Should have informed the Local Government sooner about the storm, and also had helped evacuated New Orleans.
Local: They should have had a plan, buses, and more ways of informing the people that a huge hurricane was coming their way.
3. I believe the Federal government should have a lot to do with it. They are here to take care of disasters, so they need to come up with a plan that will help the people after a disaster. I think Congress needs to establish limits on the type of emergency FEMA deals with and they should only allow them to help with certain types of disasters. But I think if someone is going to take the risk and live somewhere, where they have a higher risk of being hit by a natural disaster, and then they should have to pay for some sort of insurance that will help them rebuild their lives afterwards. I also think the Federal government should give out more warnings about when a disaster will hit, so people can get out quicker and get somewhere safer!
