Should the U.S. have intervened in Rwanda?

This is Belgium's conflict and the European Union's conflict.  Why are we risking our soldiers' lives to clean up someone else's messes?  Can we seriously be the world's policeman when we are 16.2 trillion dollars in debt?  We need to cut budgets, not add to the expenditures.  Do any of you have any family in the military?  Would you really want them put at risk because Belgium doesn't want to take care of its business?

Couldn't we force Belgium or France to help somehow? Not sending in troops, but talking with their government and making the issue known that THEY need to resolve this conflict somehow. That way, no U.S soldiers would be harmed, and we wouldn't really be investing any money into this.

We've made it our responsiblity though to watch over other nations, maybe not on purpose but we have. We get into other peoples disputes all the time and its not fair that we didnt hear and decided this time to sit back and watch when the solution would have been so simple and quick. Whats more debt to innocent peoples lives.

Excellent point! How much is an innocent life worth? How much are hundred of thousands of innocent lives worth? We work so many other things into our budget, I'm okay with risking our debt to save lives.

I don't think our military would really be at risk because we have a lot of technology and advanced weapons and I think using the force we needed to none of our soldiers would get hurt. It wasn't our mess but if we were in their position we would want the help.

Completely agreed, the reason so many countries dislike the US is because of conflicts like Korea and Vietnam where we got involved in something that wasn't our problem.

It's not really a case of being "the world's policeman." We're not pulling you over for speeding or stopping jaywalkers. We're more like the guy who happened to look through the window and saw his neighbor stabbing a bunch of helpless people with a butter knife. Maybe we pick up the shotgun on the mantle, go downstairs, and help the victims get away?
