1) What role did the National, State and Local Governments have in preventing, mitigating and reacting to Hurricane Katrina?

The national government attempted to help out Katrina, but they were too little too late. They didn’t plan for Katrina so therefore, the Local and State suffered. Even though officials ended up coming a few days later, it wasn’t enough. They didn’t react quick enough.

2) Evaluate how each level of government performed its duties. Be specific and back up your points with facts and logic.

The national government attempted to help after they realized how bad the hurricane actually was, but by that time, it was already kind of too late to do much of anything.

The state government should have done a better job of working with the local government, as well as prevention by getting people out of the area.

The local government needed to do a better job or working with the state governments and taking the necessary steps to keep everyone safe.

3) After reading the "FEMA and federalism" article, take a stand about the role of the federal government in natural disasters.

I think that the government needs to work better at planning for natural disasters, and they also need to do better in communicating before the disaster strikes, they also need to do a better job in telling people how to remain safe and the precautions that must be taken so that no one will get hurt. One of the things that the government can do in order to ensure that people are safe would be like in the case of Katrina with the buses not working, the government should have had a training course, or more people trained to handle a situation like that.

I agree with you and your stand on this topic because you're right about pretty much everything. Specific things needed to be done in a short period of time and it wasn't done. Part of this is because nobody prepared for things like this to occur and that was very unsafe of the government's part and it ended up badly with many dying.

i think that the government does need to plan more for natural disasters especially when they know that they are going to hit somewhere.
