Ivan thinks that they can provide the most order and structure that man kind needs. He thinks man kind is too irresponsible to have the burden of so many freedoms.
2) The Grand Inquisitor believes that Jesus does not understand human beings. Explain Jesus' "misunderstanding."
The Grand Inquisitor believes that the people of this world need security, sctructure, and order. He doesn't think Christ understands that and uses Christ's rejection of the three temptations to prove that. He thinks Christ should have taken all the power to ensure the peoples' security.
3) How does the Grand Inquisitor suggest that the church can relieve the human's "burden of freedom"?
By providing the rules and order that the people need. They believe it will relieve the suffering that man kind deals with because of all the freedom they have.
4) Why is suffering the price of freedom?
With freedom comes choice, and many people do not always make the right choice. With mistakes come consequences and some of those consequences lead to people suffering.
