German 3 is a one-year (2 semester) course designed to enhance and advance your interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational skills through reading, writing, viewing, speaking and listening activities.  This Semester 1 course builds upon the vocabulary, grammar and cultural objectives learned in German 1 and German 2.   You will learn new vocabulary through thematic lessons that you will be able to apply in everyday, relevant situations.  You will learn new grammatical objectives, in addition to reviewing grammar points that you have learned previously, so that you can implement them both in your language skills.  You will learn new or more in-depth cultural information with regards to the practices, products and perspectives of various German-speaking countries. Throughout this course, you will have the opportunity to practice German vocabulary, grammar and culture in a variety of ways. This course will provide you with instructional videos (Loom), informational videos (YouTube), practice worksheets (documents), listening/speaking prompts (Flipgrid, EdPuzzle) online practice games (Kahoot, Quizlet, etc.) and authentic reading articles that will assist you in acquiring your new skills.  You will also have the opportunity to share ideas and opinions in German with your instructor and peers in a forum.

You will see a variety of activities as you go through this course.  They are classified in 3 modes of communication in the target language.

1. Interpretive- reading articles, listening to audio sources, and watching videos would fit into this category.  You are interpreting what you read, hear or view.

2. Interpersonal- responding to a written question or prompt, responding to an oral question or prompt, taking part in a forum with peers/instructors, or participating in a simulated conversation would fit into this category.  You are communicating in an interactive or interpersonal manner.

3. Presentational- narrating a story, writing a paragraph or translations, or creating a presentation or project would fit into this category.  You are presenting information, using your acquired knowledge.
