Civil War Literature
Please include the following in your written review of your piece of historical fiction.
• Your novel must be approved by the instructor
• Format for section 1 will be plot summary.
o Please include a basic plot summary, include setting, and all elements of plot (introduction, main conflict, resolution, theme) this should be 1-2 pages in length
• Format for section 2 will be: characterization
o Here you will include ½ to ¾ of a page on each character describing the character’s strengths and weaknesses, his/her beliefs, values and behaviors.
• Format for section 3 will be: personal commentary.
o Here you should have your position on the characters, plot, general outcome of the book. What aspects of this book did you really enjoy? What aspect of this book did you really hate? What do you think of the author? How about the ending? Does the author just end it abruptly, or does he/she make an effort to really tie up the loose ends? Does the author intentionally leave the ending open ended or ambiguous?
o This section should be 1-2 pages in length
• Format for Section 4 will be: connection to class content and Civil War era.
o Examine the historical accuracy of this text. How does it specifically relate to the action of the war? What aspect of the Civil War Era does this novel depict? What perspective does the author present. This section should be 2-3 pages in length

In addition, we will have a literature circle discussion of all novels in class during the week this is due (week 8)
