Pride and Prejudice

Title:  Pride and Prejudice

Author:  Jane Austen

DOB:  12/16/1775

DOD:  5/18/1817

Lived:  Steventon

Original Publication Date:  1/28/1813

Setting:  Late 1700's - Early 1800's, Longbourn England

Theme:  People are more than just their social class, appearance isn't everything

Plot:  Mrs. Bennet is on a mission to get all of her daughters married.  A young man named Mr. Bingley comes to town along with his friend Mr. Darcy.  Bingley falls in love with Jane, the oldest Bennet sister, and Elizabeth and Darcy are repelled by each other.  (At least at first :)

Characters:

Elizabeth Bennet:  (Protagonist) Young, smart, woman with her own veiws of the world

Mr. Darcy:  Handsom man but very arrogant

Mr. Bennet:  Quiet but smart.  Wants the best for his daughters

Mrs. Bennet:  Bold, loud, woman.  Cares about the views of society.  Desperately wants her daughters married to save them from poverty.

Jane Bennet:  The "most beautiful" of the Bennet sisters.  Shy and sweet

Lydia Bennet:  Youngest of the Bennet sisters, flirtatious and very naive

Charles Bingley:  Handsome and good natured, Jane's love interest

Caroline Bingley: (Antagonist) Charles's younger sister, likes Mr. Darcy

George Wickham: (Antagonist) Mr. Darcy's enemy, gambles, blames Darcy for his problems, tricked Lydia into marrying him and tried to get her money

Mr. Collins:  Very boring but rich, wanted to marry Elizabeth (even though they are cousins >.<) to ensure her financial security

Charlotte:  Elizabeth's best friend, ends up marrying Collins because she was scared of ending up poor

Lady Cathorine:  (Antagonist) VERY Arrogant does not want Elizabeth and Darcy to see each other because she does not think she is good enough for him

Symbols:  I didn't see any

Personal Response:  I honestly could watch this movie a million times and never get sick of it.  It's SOOOOO good.  I love the scene when it's raining and Darcy tells Elizabeth that he loves her but it's crazy that he does and he didn't want to at all.  He basically insults her and tells her that he broke up Jane and Bingely and still expects her to marry him!  I always think he's a big jerk there.  Good thing he gets his act together!  If any of you guys haven't seen this movie, go watch it.  It's AMAZING!!!!
