1) What role did the National, State and Local Governments have in preventing, mitigatingand reacting to Hurricane Katrina?
National: national should have supplied things faster and more productively. They shouldn’t have asked questions and just gave them anything they could.
State: they should have helped more than they did by supplying morethings and/or getting more help, after the local asked and didn’t get it.
Local: they were supposed to warn everyone and evacuate on time, andafter the storm they were responsible for asking the government for help andwork on a plan to get things fixed up. They should have had a better planbefore anything happened in the first place instead of waiting till the lastminute.
2) Evaluate how eachlevel of government performed its duties. Be specific and back up your pointswith facts and logic.
All of them dida bad job at their responsibilities. They say they didn’t know but local andstate say that they tried to let them know.
National: it took them too long torespond to the situation, and
State: state didn’t do a good jobat communicating, or trying to communicate good enough to help.
Local: didn’t evacuate the city in time, they said "wehad the buses, but no drivers." which is a poor excuse; they could haveasked other cities for help.
3) Afterreading the "FEMA and federalism" article, take a stand about therole of the federal government in natural disasters.
They shouldtake a big part in natural disasters because it is there job to protect us. FEMAis good to have but things should be upgraded and made better so quickerreactions can be made.
