I believe that at this time the patriot act and the data collecting are necessary for our security. I do not like the thought that I am always being spied on but I understand that privacy is a freedom we must sacrifice right now to protect ourselves. :-D

Well thought out response.  However, do we want government to be that powerful?  If our government wasn't so interventionist in its foreign policy, we wouldn't have a terrorism problem.  Maybe we need to take the Ron Paul appoach--emphasize personal liberty and de-emphasize big government in economics and foreign policy.

I agree with lessening the power of the government, and our presence in forgiven countries, but I do believe there is more behind the terrorist’s hate for America, I believe their problems are not with America alone but with all western culture, they do not like our culture or its beliefs because it contradicts their beliefs.

It's kind of a "Needs of the majority outweigh needs of the individual" type thing. I agree.
