Book One

Well when I read the back of this book it seemed like it wouldn't be that bad of a summer read. I was proven wrong. I feel asleep within the first page. But I knew I had to push through and it actually is getting better. I think as of right now my favorite character in the book is Gregory. He seems to the be the only person in the book who really cared for the children, and he certainly did not have to. My least favorite character is the same as everyone else, Fyodor, the father. He's obviously a horribly, selfish, drunken father who doesn't care about anyone but himself. Although he does show some affection to one of his children when he lets Alyosha, the youngest son, join the monastery. It was still part of his own selfish drive because he wanted somebody to pray for him and tell him about the afterlife. I'm kind of interested to see what happens in the rest of the book, unless the whole story is filled with as many selfish people as the first book was.

THANK YOU! TWO FOR GREGORY! WOOOOOOOO!

Anyways, yeah the book seemed really good from the back cover, but I guess you can't judge a book by its back cover.

Miranda!

I think gregory is a good guy to and he showed that he cared for Fyodors first wife? i think polenov was nice to the kids also i mean he took them in and paid for them and took care of them.  Yeah i thought the book was boring at first too. what do you think of the elder Zosima?

I love gregory! He is so kind and he takes the boys under his wing. i dont think he will have too large of a role in the book though because the boys were only with him for a  short time.

The father is extremly selfish and should never have had kids.

I agree, i am hoping their are not alot more selfish people to come in the book.

just so you 3 know....

Gregory is a BAD person. Sure he took the kids under his wing, but did he really care for them? they were slovenly, unkempt and dirty. sounds like a bad father figure to me. Probably uses the "Boys will be boys" motto.
