Katrina was hit by this level 4 hurricane and national guard or someone should have had at least a clue of what damage this could cause. Some type of enforcement should have Kept an eye on the levy. Then they would have Known the circumstances and been able to handle or plan for it better. It shouldn't have been three days until President Bush flew over and checKed the damages, then considered sending people. You don't wait three days if your basement is flooded to see if its oK. I Know president Bush wouldn't do that for his basement, so why for his country? The Mayor Ray Nagin, says he asKed for specific help, including resources, he was the only one down there. Governor Blacko sent help request to the federal government in such vague ways, and to me this does mean in any way, or at least get down here and see what was needed. She could have called bacK and said it more specific as well. Brown from FEMA said he had only heard about it 4 days after, from the news reports, he says now, that he had Known 24 hours before so obviously he did not want to taKe responsibility until then. How long does a phone call taKe? There are documents that show request to FEMA for help. The locals were the only ones doing something, and that is only because the simple fact that they had to be there. There should always be an immediate bacK up plan, especially in a city that is Known for hurricanes, wether or not they have ever been this bad. Communication may have been half the problem, thats sad and they admitted it but you should at least be able to do something for the people that have been found. The Mayor was screaming for help, and it had still failed to come. If something liKe this ever happened in Michigan I would be worried if they Know how to handle it or not. So does the federal government get it, and do they care?
