Book five was a good book. Alyosha's romance with Lise begins to occur. He promises to marry her when she is old enough, and even kisses her twice. Her mother is not happy with this, and demands the letter that she wrote to Alyosha. Alyosha says no, and leaves, telling her that he really intends to marry Lise. Afterwards Alyosha goes to look for Dmitry, but instead meets Smerdyakov. Smerdyakov is "wooing" a girl with his guitar, because he's just awesome like that. Smerdyakov talks about being afraid of Dmitry to Alyosha, and tells him that Ivan and Dmitry are supposed to meet at the Inn. Alyosha goes there but instead finds only Ivan. Ivan and Alyosha talk, because Ivan is supposed to be leaving for Moscow the next day. Ivan intends on making Alyosha his friend before he leaves. They talk about god, and Ivan tells Alyosha a story. Alyosha gets semi-mad. They both leave, Alyosha headed for the monastery, due to the soon death of his elder. Ivan heads home and Smerdyakov and Fyodor both tell Ivan to go to Chermashnya. Ivan tells his father he will, but last minute changes his mind. Meanwhile, Smerdyakov has a seizure, which will last a few days, and Gregory is in a lot of pain. This occurs on the same night that Grushenka is expected to come to Fyodor's house. I actually enjoy this book. It's epic.... Maybe not epic, but it's good. :P
