The Physical Education program provides the student with the opportunity to enhance physical well-being, refine motor skills, increase knowledge, and improve attitudes and behaviors, which in turn will increase the student's ability to live a more active and healthy life. Students will receive instruction in cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training. The purpose of the cardiovascular fitness program will be to identify a base from which cardiovascular fitness may be improved, and to create awareness of the importance of testing and target heart rates. Students will also take part in the Presidential Physical Fitness tests in which results are compared with nationally set standards. Various team and individual sports and skills will be taught. Each student will be required to run one mile and swim at least one-quarter mile as part of the course requirements.
