WELCOME TO 6th GRADE EXPLORATORY ART!
This course will meet every OTHER day during third or eighth hour for about a third of the school year.. Students will need a pencil for class every day and should be aware that the art room will be quite messy; please wear appropriate clothing every day. Some materials will permanently stain clothing and shoes, and students will not be given extra time to change clothes. Aprons are available but please come prepared anyway!
This class will focus on skill building, basic art concepts and personal expression. Students will work with a variety of materials and tools and will be assigned at least one design/drawing project, one painting or printmaking project and one clay project.
Projects will be assigned based on the pace of the class as a whole . Generally, homework is not assigned but students who are falling behind may choose (or be asked) to work before or after school.
All projects will be graded based on predetermined criteria that will be thoroughly discussed before and during the assignment. Students will receive a letter grade in this class. In almost every case, the project will be evaluated according to the skill and/or information presented in the lesson, personal expression/creativity and quality of craftsmanship.
The most important thing to remember is that every student is capable of succeeding if they are willing to put forth their best effort, be attentive to directions and use their time wisely. Students will not be evaluated according to innate ability!
Food and beverages are not permitted in this classroom at any time.
