Ready to be challenged with pre-college content in a classroom setting that simulates your future
undergraduate academic life? An art, in itself, your discussion of literature will demand your clear
expression of ideas in both oral and written form. Together, we will explore literary works as art
pieces and their authors as craftsmen. Your conceptions, interpretations and experiences in the
world will enrich your explorations and conversations of literary texts, themselves, in all of their
complex layers.
With international-mindedness as the driving force, you will work in inquiry-based activities to
form an on-going intellectual, ideological and global conversation. Much of your research, writing
and oral discussion/presentation will be directed by you as you employ literary analysis strategies
to create original, text-based explication and response to literature in its many cultural contexts.
If you intend to take the College Board’s Advanced Placement English Literature and/or English
Language Exams, this class will prepare you for them. This course is open to all 11th and 12th
grade students. Students who are interested in taking the IB certificate exam must take both
years I & II of the HL course. For all Diploma Programme candidates, this is a required course,
the first year of a two year sequence.
