IB Music SL 1 is designed for students who are members of the auditioned music performance ensemble (required, as group performance accounts for 50% of the grade) and who are interested in pursuing the Diploma Programme with music as a component of their academic preparation. IB Music SL 1 begins preparing the student for the IB examination (Listening Paper), the musical links investigation and the selected internal assessment (which all are completed in SL 2). Students will study world music, periods of the Western Tradition, performance and compositional techniques appropriate to the SLG internal assessment, and study of the IB required works. All work is cumulative through SL2 and students are encouraged to continue review of each musical genre studied throughout the entire course.
